harmonical
adj 1: involving or characterized by harmony [synonym: {consonant},
{harmonic}, {harmonical}, {harmonized}, {harmonised}]

Harmonic \Har*mon"ic\ (h[aum]r*m[o^]n"[i^]k), Harmonical
\Har*mon"ic*al\ (-[i^]*kal), a. [L. harmonicus, Gr. "armoniko`s;
cf. F. harmonique. See {Harmony}.]
1. Concordant; musical; consonant; as, harmonic sounds.
[1913 Webster]

Harmonic twang! of leather, horn, and brass. --Pope.
[1913 Webster]

2. (Mus.) Relating to harmony, -- as melodic relates to
melody; harmonious; esp., relating to the accessory sounds
or overtones which accompany the predominant and apparent
single tone of any string or sonorous body.
[1913 Webster]

3. (Math.) Having relations or properties bearing some
resemblance to those of musical consonances; -- said of
certain numbers, ratios, proportions, points, lines,
motions, and the like.
[1913 Webster]

{Harmonic interval} (Mus.), the distance between two notes of
a chord, or two consonant notes.

{Harmonical mean} (Arith. & Alg.), certain relations of
numbers and quantities, which bear an analogy to musical
consonances.

{Harmonic motion}, the motion of the point A, of the foot of
the perpendicular PA, when P moves uniformly in the
circumference of a circle, and PA is drawn perpendicularly
upon a fixed diameter of the circle. This is simple
harmonic motion. The combinations, in any way, of two or
more simple harmonic motions, make other kinds of harmonic
motion. The motion of the pendulum bob of a clock is
approximately simple harmonic motion.

{Harmonic proportion}. See under {Proportion}.

{Harmonic series} or {Harmonic progression}. See under
{Progression}.

{Spherical harmonic analysis}, a mathematical method,
sometimes referred to as that of {Laplace's Coefficients},
which has for its object the expression of an arbitrary,
periodic function of two independent variables, in the
proper form for a large class of physical problems,
involving arbitrary data, over a spherical surface, and
the deduction of solutions for every point of space. The
functions employed in this method are called spherical
harmonic functions. --Thomson & Tait.

{Harmonic suture} (Anat.), an articulation by simple
apposition of comparatively smooth surfaces or edges, as
between the two superior maxillary bones in man; -- called
also {harmonia}, and {harmony}.

{Harmonic triad} (Mus.), the chord of a note with its third
and fifth; the common chord.
[1913 Webster]

  • How Does Solar Radiation Affect Climate? - The Institute for . . .
Solar energy, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal, is a renewable energy source that can be used to generate electricity and heat, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change
  • Aerosols and their Climate Impacts – ClimateData. ca
Aerosols can affect the climate by reflecting or absorbing heat and light from the sun and influencing cloud formation In this article, learn more about the influence of aerosols on climate and recent trends in atmospheric aerosol concentrations
  • Basics of Climate Change | US EPA
Aerosols that reflect sunlight, such as particles from volcanic eruptions or sulfur emissions from burning coal, have a cooling effect Those that absorb sunlight, such as black carbon (a part of soot), have a warming effect
  • Re-radiation of heat - Understanding Global Change
Greenhouse effect: Energy radiated from Earth’s surface as heat, or infrared radiation, is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases, impeding the loss of heat from our atmosphere to space
  • Light absorption properties of black and brown carbon during the . . .
Here, we present the light absorption, potential sources, and health risks of BC and BrC during the prescribed burning season at an urban background site in Brisbane based on the measurements with a seven-wavelength aethalometer
  • Causes - NASA Science
About half the light energy reaching Earth's atmosphere passes through the air and clouds to the surface, where it is absorbed and radiated in the form of infrared heat About 90% of this heat is then absorbed by greenhouse gases and re-radiated, slowing heat loss to space
  • How do greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere?
Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, in a process called the “greenhouse effect ” 1 But how do these molecules actually warm our planet? We’ll start our exploration of greenhouse gases with a single carbon dioxide (CO 2) molecule
  • The greenhouse effect - British Geological Survey
We know that greenhouse gases provide a warming effect to Earth’s surface, but aerosol pollution in the atmosphere can counteract this warming effect For example, sulphate aerosols from fossil fuel combustion exert a cooling influence by reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth
  • Greenhouse effect - Wikipedia
In the case of Earth, the Sun emits shortwave radiation (sunlight) that passes through greenhouse gases to heat the Earth's surface In response, the Earth's surface emits longwave radiation that is mostly absorbed by greenhouse gases, reducing the rate at which the Earth can cool off
  • Modeling the Black and Brown Carbon Absorption and Their Radiative . . .
These results emphasize that accurate calculation of BC and BrC sunlight absorption is crucial for understanding the impact of intense boreal wildfires on regional climate
